History of North Star Windows
North Star Windows was founded in 1985 in Ontario, Canada. The company began as a small operation focusing on producing high-quality vinyl windows and has grown to become a significant player in the North American window and door industry and the largest Window company in Ontario. Over the years, North Star has built a reputation for manufacturing durable, energy-efficient windows and doors that meet the stringent demands of Canadian weather conditions.
Since its beginnings, North Star Windows has continuously strived to push the boundaries of window manufacturing, consistently introducing new technologies and materials to enhance their products.
Unique Features of North Star Windows
North Star Windows incorporates several unique features, including an advanced pocket sill design that effectively manages water and air infiltration and impressive efficiency ratings.
North Star also recently introduced ULTRASTAR co-extruded reinforcements within their casement and awning sashes. ULTRASTARTM co-extruded reinforcements are engineered to deliver the stiffness, strength, and stability that matter most in any window. By co-extruding virgin vinyl PVC and 55% fiberglass content, the need for metal reinforcing is eliminated, and a lightweight, strong profile is formed. The result is significantly more robust and rigid frames that withstand harsh weather and the test of time better than traditional Vinyl windows.

- Durability: Short of the casement and awing, which are made of a mixture of vinyl and fiberglass, the other windows need reinforcement or components to add rigidity.
- Uniqueness: I like the UltraStar material used in the casement and awning, which combines Viny with fiberglass but is only on a small part of the line. Besides that, there is not much other innovation I can see

Advantages of North Star Windows
One of North Star Windows’ main advantages is their impressive energy efficiency, supported by a comprehensive lifetime warranty that ensures long-term peace of mind for homeowners. The fact that their windows can withstand the harsh weather conditions in Ontario indeed says something about their ability to withstand cold weather. I am really curious to learn more about the UltraStar vinyl/ fiberglass material. If they roll it out to their entire line, that would make me much more intrigued by their windows.
Disadvantages of North Star Windows
While North Star Windows offers numerous benefits, some disadvantages include potentially higher costs and a smaller presence in the US than most companies. I also allow a bit more caution on smaller companies that have not stood the test of time. It is hard to say if they will be around thirty years for a warranty or parts if I have problems.
Being only Vinyl eliminates the option of considering other materials; it is not the end of the world. However, I like it when companies offer a couple of different materials for widows.
I would not say they make a bad window, but I’m not overly impressed. Except for the new Ultrastar material, which is very interesting, the rest of the line seems more run-of-the-mill vinyl window. The fact that they are smaller and possibly more challenging to locate their product led me to suggest another brand.
